Patanjali launches ayurvedic drug for Covid-19

NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: Baba Ramdev-led Patanjali Ayurved launching a medicine, 'Coronil', for treating Covid-19 in Haridwar today. 

Acharya Balkrishna, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Patanjali, had earlier this month claimed that an Ayurvedic medicine developed by the company has been able to cure Covid-19 patients within 5-14 days.

During the launch of the medicine at Haridwar in Uttarakhand, Baba Ramdev said that Patanjali has  prepared the first Ayurvedic-clinically controlled, research, evidence and trial based medicine for COVID19. He said, their  clinical trial found that 69 per cent  of the infected persons  tested recovered from COVID-19 within three days, while 100 per cent  of them  recovered within a week. 

He said that in the next few days, data of the trail will be released as evidence to bolster claims. There are now over 9 million people affected by the pandemic since it broke out in China's Wuhan city in December 2019.

He said Ayurvedic elements are being used in the tablet. "There are more than 100 compounds used in the Coronil," he added. An entire kit is being made for that which consists of other Ayurvedic medicine as well which helps in immunity. The entire kit comes at Rs 600. However, he claimed that it will be given for free to those living below the poverty line.

Drug firm Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, under the brand name FabiFlu, has also launched an antiviral drug Favipiravir, to cure patients with mild to moderate coronavirus at a price tag of about Rs 103 per tablet.

According to Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, the medication will be available in the form of a 200 mg tablet and will be at a maximum retail price (MRP) of Rs 3,500 for a strip of 34 tablets.

With this FabiFlu also becomes the first oral favipiravir-approved medication for the treatment of COVID-19 in India, it further stated.
